The programming process is divided into two parts:
- (a) programming the remote control for locking and unlocking the doors, and
- (b) programming the transponder chip for engine start.
The two separate instruction sets are listed below.
a) REMOTE CONTROL PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS (LOCK/UNLOCK DOORS)
Preparatory Steps for Remote Control Programming:
- Make sure you have at least one working remote car key.
- When programming, all old remotes will be removed from the car’s memory, so have them ready.
- CLOSE and UNLOCK all doors using the power door locks.
- BUCKLE seat belts.
- Make sure that you don’t press the brake pedal at any time during or before the procedure.
Steps to program the remote control:
- 1. Close all doors, then open driver's door and press the Unlock button on driver’s door while it is open, insert key into ignition.
- 2. Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 8 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. (if the door locks do not cycle, then it was done incorrectly. You must start over by removing key and beginning from step 1)
- 3. Within 10 seconds press any button on the first keyless remote to be programmed. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. If you only have one remote then skip to step 5.
- 4. Within 10 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat step 4 for all other remotes.
- 5. Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
Please note:
- If this does not work try the procedure with the door closed
- All steps should be performed in fairly rapid succession. If you never get the initial chime or door lock cycle, that means the vehicle has never entered programming mode. You should remove key from ignition, open and close the door and start over.
b) TRANSPONDER CHIP PROGRAMMING INSTRUCTIONS (FOR ENGINE START):
Preparatory Steps for Remote Control Programming:
- Make sure you have 2 original working keys. If you don't have them, please contact local locksmith.
Steps to program the transponder chip:
- 1. Sit in the driver's seat with doors closed and put the first coded key into the ignition & turn the key to the ACC position.
- 2. Now turn this key to the OFF position & remove the key.
- 3. Within 5 seconds put the 2nd coded key into the ignition & turn this key to the ON position.
- 4. Turn this key back to the OFF position and remove the key.
- 5. The door locks will then cycle to indicate that the learning mode is active.
- 6. Within 5 seconds put the NEW key into the ignition & turn to the ON position.
- 7. The door locks will cycle 3 times to indicate the 3rd key has been trained, ensure you wait for the locks to finish cycling before turning the key to the OFF position.
- 8. Repeat this step for any following keys. The 4th key trained will cycle the locks 4 times, and so on. You can train up to a maximum of 8 keys.
